Rizone Take Ownership Shell Extension 0.0.4.48

TOwnership-Menu Do you find, when you modify system files in Windows 7 or Vista that you have to change permissions a lot? Then this tool is for you. This little utility will add a Take Ownership Context Menu Item to all files and folders. This menu option can be used to modify discretionary access control lists (DACLs). Or, in terms a normal person will understand, it will grant you permission to modify a file or folder.

Using the Take Ownership Extension

Download the TakeOwnership.zip file, Extract to any folder. Launch the install utility by clicking on TOwnership.exe. To install, click on the Install button. To uninstall, follow the same steps as above, but now you will have an Uninstall option in place of the Install, click on Uninstall. TOwnership-Screen

Hi,

This program should NOT be run on any part of the file system that contains junction points. It doesn’t know how to traverse them and it ends up running in an endless loop, all the while creating bogus ACLs. To prove it to yourself, run JunctionBackup, before and after you run this utility, and then look at the backups it creates. DON’T TRY IT ON A PRODUCTION MACHINE.

Correction to previous post: I meant run “JunctionBox”. You can get it from iwrconsultancy.co.uk. Sorry for the typo, and it’s too bad because Take Ownership seemed like a useful program.

in my hands it doesn’t work. when i right-click i see it but i don’t take any ownership. could it depend from the fact that i have a starter edition of windows 7?

The current version of the tool (v0.0.4.48) should not be run on any portion of a W7 file system that contains junction point. It will run in an endless loop, all the while creating bogus ACL’s.
